How does MediHealth adhere to the 7 rights in the name of medication administration?

1. Right Medication

Nurses need to check the order and the medication label. They will need to check the patient’s allergies and prepare and dilute the medicine correctly.

2. Right Individual

Nurses are required to verify the identity of the patient and the medication order. Patients are needed to identify themselves.

3. Right Dose

Nurses need to check the order, and confirm appropriateness of the dose using a current drug reference. If necessary, they will need to calculate the dose and have another nurse calculate the dose as well in order to mitigate the possibility of any human errors.

4. Right Time

The frequency of the ordered medication has to be checked. Nurses are to double-check that the ordered dose is given to the patient at the correct time.

5. Right Route

Nurses have to check the order and the appropriateness of the route ordered and confirm that the patient can take or receive the medication by the ordered route.

6. Right Documentation

Nurses are to document administration after giving the ordered medication. They also need to chart the time, route, and other specific information as necessary.

7. Right Response

Nurses have to make sure that the drug leads to a desired effect, and be sure to document the monitoring of the patient and any other nursing interventions that are applicable.
